Over the past few months I have shared on my Instagram stories some of the renovations that have been happening at my office in the suburbs. As a firm, we have been growing our team which left us with a need for more room.
My firm took over the office space next door which translated into knocking down walls and re-designing the entire space to bring it into the world of grey tones and clean lines. Acquiring the space next door translated into additional offices, one of which was assigned to me 🙂
Welcome Home

As I’ve mentioned in previous posts, I have been with my firm for 6 years and have worn a variety of hats and job titles over the years, all of which I did from the comfort of my wooden fortress of a cubical (RIP). In my newest role, I now have an office to call my own and I couldn’t be happier.
This may be anti-social of me but I am most looking forward to having the ability to close my door and not be bothered when working on client plans and conducting calls. (Is this just me!?) Over the years, I have gotten really good at having my attention pulled away from a project and being able to (somewhat) quickly get back into the zone but am ready to limit those instances.
I am also very excited to begin decorating my office and including my personal style and mementos but I recognize that could take awhile and its not the highest priority. What is a big priority is making sure I have on hand the essentials to get my through the wildest of days!
Office Essentials
This week, I’m am putting together a bag of all the essentials I’ll need for my new work space.
Extra Pair of Flats & Heels

True story, one day I showed up to work wearing two different pairs of flats. It was one of my more embarrassing days in the office walking around with two different pairs of shoes. Lesson learned, always have a back-up pair (or three) in the office.
Black Blazer

I work in a professional setting where I am expected to be in a blazer or in a professional dress when meeting with clients. There have been many occasions where I was asked to attend a client facing meeting last minute and felt super under dressed. Having a black blazer hanging in my office will remedy these days from happening.
Extra Tights & Clear Nail Polish

With the fall season upon us and winter on its way, its a necessity to have an extra pair of tights in my desk. I’m sure there are others out that that had a run in their tights midday and either rode it out or had to use a lunch break to run to the store. Another essential is to have clear nail polish on hand to paint over little holes to keep them from spreading.
Make-up Bag w/ Odds & Ends
I can’t tell you how many times my make-up bag saved me during the course of a day.
- Nail File
- Medicine
- Tide Pen
- Mascara
- Hairspray
- Deodorant
- Hairbrush
- Floss
Snacks

My office provides snacks for employees but they can be unhealthy. I love fun-size candy bars but sometimes I need more substance than candy and Chex Mix. I like to keep some of my favorite non-perishable snacks in my drawer to call on when needed.
- Rice Cakes
- RxBar Nut Butter
- Larabars
- Almonds
- Instant Oatmeal
Personal Items

One of the first things I did when moving into my office was bring personal items from home including picture frames, books and decorative bowls for organization (and candy!). I even brought an extra blanket and throw pillows from home to make it a cozier space.
I spend more of my waking hours in my office than home so I figured I should make it an inviting and comfortable space. I am still deciding on what pictures and diplomas to hang on the wall but I have time to iron out those details. I might even get a floor length mirror so I can take my work wear pictures from the office rather than fighting with the sunrise each morning.
What do you all keep in your office, desk or workspace? Comment below if you think there is something missing!
