This summer I have found myself in Target on a weekly basis picking up things for our house and going back because we forgot something on our list (classic) or to make a return. I have yet to find the will power to not swing through the women’s clothing section each time I enter the store. It’s no accident that the women’s section is the FIRST thing you see when you walk in.
Well played, Target. Well played.
In any event, I’ve been creating mini Target summer capsule wardrobe and I don’t hate it. Between taking the dog on walk every morning, gardening and still working from home I’ve been needing more casual summer pieces and Target did not disappoint.

- Pink v-neck
- White + Black Puff Sleeve Tops
- Pull-on Shorts (Grey Stripe and Olive)
- Black Eyelet Dress
- White Linen Blazer
- Brown Sandals

Casual Looks
This has been a really hot summer by Chicago’s standards and I learned quickly that jean shorts and capris were not going to cut it on 90 degree plus days. These pull on shorts have been a game changer. They are lightweight, as comfortable as pajamas and still look pulled together. I picked them up in a couple colors to mix and match with the colors I wear most.
When we moved I got rid of older t-shirts and tank tops that needed to be replaced. I was so impressed with the various tank top and t-shirt styles Target had this year and the color ways. I could have bought 20 tops but kept with neutral colors and of course a light pink. In my opinion, you can never go wrong with a basic tank top or t-shirt from Target. From past experience, I’ve learned that they hold up better than the shirts you can get from Old Navy, Gap and even J. Crew (gasp).
Work From Home Looks
My work from home outfit approach can be summed up in one word. Mullet.
The past four months I’ve been embracing the mullet approach where it’s work on top and casual on the bottom. When purchasing pieces that can double for work, I’ve been focusing on what does the item look like from the torso and up. Enter my new favorite top.
It’s made out of sweatshirt material but the puffed sleeve detail gives it the appearance of fancy top. Did I mention it’s made out of sweatshirt material and super soft!?
I couldn’t not buy this dress. The puffed sleeves pass the “Zoom test” and because it’s a dress with sleeves, I will be able to wear this into the office as I start going back. I have been living in this dress the past few weeks, the sleeve and midi length keep me from freezing in the AC.
I was recently inspired by O What A Sight To See and love how she styled a linen blazer with linen shorts to create the perfect summer mullet look. This blazer from Target is the perfect compliment to the pull on shorts and will transition well once I’m back in the office.
Back to Work Looks
While everything I purchased was intended for casual and WFH wear, I wanted to share how I plan to style these basic pieces for when I go back to the office.

Cannot wait to pair this white linen blazer with black or navy bottoms to create an eye catching look.

Styling this puff sleeved top with a pencil skirt will be the closest I get to wearing a sweatshirt in the office.

Take a simple tank top from casual to the office by pairing it with a blazer. Try a monochromatic combination to really elevate the look.
What do you all think of my mini Target capsule collection? I got a lot of very versatile pieces for right around $150. I’m sure these won’t be the last of my Target purchases for summer but am looking forward to wearing these looks on repeat for the next few months.
XoXo
