Home Tour: The Closet of My Dreams

I’m pretty sure I’ve been teasing this dream closet since I told you all I was moving to the suburbs. There are so many features of this time that I fell in love with but this was the most practical feature that I fell in love with.

If I haven’t already shared this, our home was built in 1931 and under went a huge rehab in 2017 by the previous owners. I cannot thank them enough for how they went about the renovation in keeping the character while mixing in the modern. Back in 1931 homes did not have en suites nor did they have walk in closets. A lot of the older homes we looked at in our little village were missing these two “must haves” on my list. Only homes that had been previously renovated or added onto had these features which is why we jumped so quickly when our house came on the market.

Okay, I’m done. You don’t care about the history of the house, you just want to see this closet and I don’t blame you.

Before

After

Really the only transformation here is from empty closet with lots of storage space to a closet with lots of clothes!

My husband and I decided to divide and conquer this set so I’m only showing my half that I quickly filled with my clothes. Trust me, his side is just as expansive. So much so he has yet to fill up the dresser in our room because everything fits so nicely in the closet.

From an organization perspective, I’ve always organized my clothing by color and thought it made the most sense to keep my shirts and blouses on the top rack with pants and skirts on the bottom racks. When getting dressed in the morning I base an outfit around a piece of clothing and build a standout outfit from there. Having my clothing grouped by color makes it super easy to find a white blouse (obviously) or a top of another color that will work with the outfit. I also love that I also have a section that is full length which I use for all my dresses!

There is still work to be done and I know I can better utilize some of the drawers and open shelving but for now, this works. i have a few more handbags I want to put on display, like my prized college graduation gift, but that will be for the dream closet 2.0.

So was it worth all the built up anticipation!? I for one think it was worth the wait 🙂

While this is my primary closet, I’m sure some of you have seen my other closet on Instagram a.k.a office. Trying my best to get that spaced pulled together so I can share it with you all.
